Amazon Kindle Adds In-App AI to Answer Book Questions

Kindle AI question feature

Reading on a Kindle may soon feel more interactive. According to a report, a new in-app AI feature will let users ask questions about books directly on their e-readers. As a result, readers can engage more deeply without leaving the page. The feature, called ‘Ask This Book’, allows users to select any passage and ask questions about the content. For example, readers may ask about plot details or characters while continuing to read.

Availability and How the Feature Works

Currently, it remains unclear how many titles support the feature. However, reports suggest it already works on thousands of bestselling English-language books. At present, the feature is available only on the Kindle iOS app. Meanwhile, it is expected to arrive on physical Kindle devices and the Android app in 2026. To use it, readers can open the in-book menu, select Ask This Book, highlight a passage, and choose suggested questions or type their own. After that, they can continue the conversation and receive AI-generated responses.

Concerns Around Control and Copyright

However, the feature may spark controversy among authors and publishers. Notably, they do not appear to have a choice in whether AI tools can interact with their work. This development comes amid ongoing AI copyright lawsuits and wider concerns about large language models. “To ensure a consistent reading experience, the feature is always on, and there is no option for authors or publishers to opt titles out,” a spokesperson was quoted as saying. Even so, many details remain unclear. Questions around licensing, hallucinations, and AI training continue to linger.
