The government of Dubai has announced that air taxis will be a common sight in the skies of Dubai in the next three years. By 2026, individuals and tourists will be able to take advantage of the new transportation option, using one of four designated vertiports located in the city. The vertiports will be situated in popular destinations such as Downtown Dubai (near the famous Burj Khalifa area), Dubai Marina, Dubai International Airport, and Palm Jumeirah.
The recent release of photos by the Government of Dubai Media Office has sparked excitement and intrigue among the public. The aerial taxi, the breathtaking views that passengers will be able to witness during their flight, and the first completed vertiport are all showcased in the images. These pictures are sure to get people’s hearts racing and imaginations soaring as they imagine the possibilities of the new mode of transportation.
According to Sheikh Mohammed, the project aims to enhance the mobility of people in urban areas in a safe, efficient, and sustainable manner, while also being integrated with Dubai’s public transportation network. The aerial taxis will be an eco-friendly option, as they will be powered solely by electricity and produce zero emissions.
With a range of 241 kilometres and a maximum speed of 300 km/h, the air taxis will be able to carry up to four passengers, along with a driver. The design for the vertiports was approved at the World Government Summit 2023, where Sheikh Mohammed was also informed about the potential partners identified by the Road and Transport Authority for operating and investing in the necessary infrastructure for the implementation of the aerial taxi project.
