AI, automation, and ChatGPT are expected to eliminate entry-level jobs in the UAE

As automation and artificial intelligence (AI) continues to gain momentum globally, millions of jobs are at risk, with almost all entry-level jobs predicted to be taken over by AI and related technologies. In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the process of AI taking over certain roles is reportedly expediting with the advent of ChatGPT and other similar apps.

According to Goldman Sachs’ latest report, around 300 million full-time jobs could be converted into automation by AI globally. In the UAE, a recently released survey found that more than half (55%) of employees fear losing their jobs to AI and robots over the next decade, with people aged below 25 expressing more concern about the impact of AI on their employment prospects.

Shalini Verma, CEO of Pivot Technologies, explains that automation is already underway for manual repetitive tasks like data entry, and software is increasingly taking over many tasks. In its generative version, AI is expected to completely transform certain jobs, taking over almost all entry-level jobs, resulting in anyone entering the job market starting at a much higher level than expected of interns and junior executives today. However, this shift to human-machine swap won’t stop there. If employees are not exceptional, they are at grave risk of being replaced by a bot. Experts will also need to adapt to working alongside AI, as core tasks are expected to be taken over by AI in every job role.

With companies in the UAE embracing AI at a break-neck pace, employees are left with no option but to upskill and upgrade themselves to stay relevant in the job market. Nicki Wilson, managing director of Genie Recruitment, advised employees to keep themselves up-to-date with trends when it comes to advancements in technology, utilizing the younger members of their team to show them the latest tools.
