The Technology Innovation Institute (TII), the applied research arm of Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC), has signed a strategic agreement with Quantinuum. This partnership aims to accelerate the development and benchmarking of next-generation quantum computing algorithms and commercial applications in the UAE.
Under this agreement, TII researchers gain access to Quantinuum’s high-fidelity quantum computing systems. Notably, they will use Helios, Quantinuum’s upcoming next-generation system, expected to improve gate fidelity and qubit connectivity significantly. Additionally, this expands TII’s partner ecosystem, which already includes in-house superconducting quantum chips, IonQ’s trapped-ion processors, and access to AWS Braket devices like QUERA, Rigetti, and IQM.
Research Focus and Technological Advancement
This collaboration enables TII to merge cutting-edge quantum hardware with advanced research efforts to develop better quantum algorithms. As a result, it strengthens the UAE’s growing global leadership in science and technology.
Key research areas include:
-
Chemistry and Materials Science: Estimating properties of quantum systems such as ground-state energy, which advances chemistry and materials research, and simulating complex many-body quantum systems like superconductors.
-
Classical-to-Quantum Data Integration: Finding efficient ways to encode classical data into quantum states for applications such as image processing and data throughput.
-
Complex Optimization Problems: Combining Quantinuum’s industry-leading fidelity with TII’s algorithmic expertise to solve large combinatorial optimization problems using fewer qubits.
Moreover, this partnership plays a critical role in training the next generation of quantum algorithm developers. Therefore, it equips the UAE and the region to effectively harness emerging quantum technologies.
Statements from Leadership Highlight the Partnership’s Significance
Dr. Leandro Aolita, Chief Researcher at TII’s Quantum Research Center, said, “The agreement with Quantinuum represents a significant step forward in our mission to advance quantum research. With access to cutting-edge quantum hardware like Helios, we remain at the forefront of quantum research and innovation, further solidifying the UAE’s status as a leading technology and innovation hub.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Avinash Palaniswamy, Chief Commercial Officer at Quantinuum, added, “Quantinuum’s partnership with TII marks a powerful alignment of vision and capability. We remain deeply committed to fostering strong partnerships across the region, uniting quantum computing trailblazers with our best-in-class systems to anchor global ecosystems, accelerate research and development, and unlock transformative value for users.”
