Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) has launched a pilot for autonomous delivery vehicles. The programme runs in partnership with K2 and EMX, the logistics arm of 7X. Consequently, the emirate issued its first official licence plate for a self-driving delivery vehicle. The trial operates under oversight from the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC).
Technology and trial operations
Autogo, a K2 subsidiary, developed the Auto-Delivery vehicles with smart mobility and AI navigation systems. Furthermore, the vehicles can navigate city streets and deliver orders without human intervention. The trial currently takes place in Masdar City, and it will test performance in real urban conditions. In addition, ITC will regulate vehicle operations and freight integration during the pilot.
Impact and next steps
The pilot aims to advance smart logistics, reduce congestion, and cut transport emissions. Therefore, the initiative supports Abu Dhabi’s broader smart mobility targets for 2040. Following successful trials, Autogo plans to expand operations beyond Masdar City into public areas. Finally, full-scale commercial deployment is expected to progress in the coming months.
