UAE Launches Wearables Studio to Advance AI Innovation and Talent
The UAE Cyber Security Council and Meta have launched Wearables Studio UAE, a national programme focused on AI-powered wearable technology. Startupbootcamp will support the programme’s implementation and delivery.
Unveiled at GISEC Global 2026, the initiative targets students, developers, entrepreneurs and startups across the UAE. Moreover, it will provide technical training, mentorship and practical experience to help participants create wearable applications.
The programme also supports the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031. Therefore, participants will gain hands-on access to wearable technology while developing skills for the country’s expanding technology ecosystem.
Security and Privacy at the Core
Cybersecurity will play a central role throughout the programme. In addition, participants will learn how to incorporate security, privacy and user trust while developing new applications.
The initiative aims to ensure developers consider cybersecurity and privacy from the beginning of the development process. Consequently, participants can build practical applications while following responsible innovation principles.
Meanwhile, participants will receive access to AI hardware, technical expertise and wearable platforms, including Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta smart glasses. These resources will help them develop practical skills and create applications designed for everyday use.
Startupbootcamp will oversee participant outreach, selection, workshops and mentoring. Additionally, it will manage the final showcase and other programme activities.
From Ideas to Wearable Applications
Wearables Studio UAE will combine public ideation sessions, expert-led workshops, technical mentoring and an in-person build sprint. Subsequently, participants will present their projects through a pitchathon and final showcase at GITEX Global 2026.
As AI becomes more integrated into daily life, wearable devices can connect digital intelligence with physical environments. Consequently, the programme aims to help UAE innovators explore practical and locally relevant applications for this technology.
Applications are open across several sectors aligned with national innovation priorities. These include tourism and cultural heritage, healthcare, education, Arabic AI companions and smart retail.
Finally, the three highest-performing teams will share a US$10,000 prize pool, encouraging participants to develop practical AI-powered wearable experiences.
