SpaceX has officially completed its acquisition of Cursor, bringing the AI coding platform under the company’s ownership.
The all-stock transaction values Cursor, the AI coding business operated by Anysphere, at approximately $60 billion. The deal makes Cursor a wholly owned SpaceX subsidiary.
SpaceX Completes Cursor Deal
SpaceX first partnered with Cursor in April 2026 through a compute agreement. At the time, Cursor said it had faced limits in scaling its model training because of insufficient computing capacity.
As part of the partnership, Cursor gained access to SpaceXAI’s Colossus computing infrastructure. The companies also planned to work together on AI model development, including improvements to Grok.
Then, in June, SpaceX exercised its option to acquire Cursor. The resulting merger agreement set an implied equity value of $60 billion and provided for the transaction to be completed through SpaceX shares.
The deal has now closed. Therefore, Cursor joins SpaceX as part of a broader strategy that combines computing infrastructure, AI models and software applications.
Cursor Gains Massive Computing Capacity
The acquisition gives Cursor direct access to SpaceX’s expanding AI infrastructure. In particular, Cursor highlighted access to what it described as “the largest fleet of GPUs in the world.”
SpaceX has been building Colossus to support large-scale AI workloads. Moreover, the company has provided computing capacity to outside customers, including Anthropic and Google.
For Cursor, the additional computing power could accelerate model training and development. The company previously said that each increase in compute had produced more capable models.
Cursor has also developed its own AI models for software development. Composer became its first agentic coding model, while later versions expanded its capabilities and training scale.
SpaceX Expands Its AI Strategy
The acquisition strengthens SpaceX’s push into AI-assisted software development. Meanwhile, Cursor brings an established developer platform and experience building coding agents.
The companies had already moved beyond infrastructure sharing before the acquisition closed. Cursor worked with SpaceX on Grok 4.5, which became the first model Cursor developed for applications beyond software engineering.
Furthermore, SpaceX has described software development as a strategically important AI application. Its filings said the Cursor relationship could strengthen its position in AI-assisted developer productivity.
The $60 billion transaction also ranks among the largest acquisitions involving a venture-backed startup. Consequently, it represents a significant expansion of SpaceX’s ambitions beyond aerospace, satellite communications and computing infrastructure.
With the transaction now complete, Cursor can combine its AI coding technology with SpaceX’s computing resources. The resulting platform could give SpaceX a stronger position in the growing market for autonomous AI software development.
