Range Rover has confirmed the arrival of the Range Rover GT, an all-electric grand tourer that becomes the fifth model in the brand’s lineup. Moreover, it is the first vehicle built on JLR’s new Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) platform. Unlike the brand’s traditional SUVs, the GT features a lower coupe-style body, making it what Range Rover describes as “the most car-like” vehicle it has ever produced.
New Electric Platform Powers the GT
The Range Rover GT will roll off the production line at JLR’s Halewood plant in Merseyside, England. Additionally, the new EMA platform is designed specifically for battery-electric vehicles while also supporting hybrid powertrains. It features an 800-volt electrical system capable of charging at speeds of up to 350 kW.
Furthermore, the platform supports dual electric motors for all-wheel drive and uses a flat-floor design to maximize interior space. Although the GT will debut as a fully electric model, Range Rover confirmed that a hybrid version will arrive “later in the lifecycle.”
The EMA platform will also support several future models, including next-generation versions of the Evoque, Velar, Land Rover Discovery Sport, and the compact Defender currently under development.
Coupe Design Signals a New Direction
Although the GT remains covered in camouflage, its proportions closely resemble the Range Rover Sport. However, it adopts a noticeably lower ride height and features four frameless doors, giving it a grand touring character.
Martin Limpert, Range Rover’s managing director, described it as “the most car-like, yet unmistakably” a Range Rover.
The GT joins the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Velar, and Evoque as the fifth member of the lineup. However, the company has not yet revealed pricing, driving range, or detailed powertrain specifications.
Production Reveal Planned for 2027 Launch
Range Rover expects to unveil the production version later this year. Afterward, customer sales are scheduled to begin in 2027.
The announcement also reflects the company’s broader electrification strategy. While development has faced delays, the GT represents the first production vehicle based on the EMA platform and marks an important step toward expanding Range Rover’s electric vehicle portfolio.
