Spotify Launches AI Chatbot for Premium Users

Spotify AI chatbot music discovery

Spotify has introduced Talk to Spotify, a new AI-powered chatbot that lets Premium subscribers interact with the streaming service using natural conversation. The feature allows users to type or speak requests directly in the mobile app to discover music, podcasts, and audiobooks, while also controlling playback without leaving the listening experience. Consequently, Spotify is expanding beyond traditional search to offer a more personalized AI assistant.

The chatbot appears in the Home and Now Playing views on iOS and Android devices. Moreover, it uses each subscriber’s listening history, playlists, favorite artists, and preferences to deliver tailored recommendations and answers. Spotify is rolling out the beta to Premium users aged 18 and older in the United States, Ireland, and Sweden, with support currently available in English.

AI Brings Conversational Music Discovery

Unlike Spotify’s earlier AI Playlist and Prompted Playlist features, Talk to Spotify supports back-and-forth conversations. Therefore, users can refine requests naturally by asking the assistant to make recommendations “more upbeat,” suggest songs they have never heard, or build playlists around moods, activities, or genres.

The chatbot also answers questions about music, podcasts, and audiobooks. For example, listeners can ask when a song was released, explore an artist’s catalog, learn more about a podcast guest, or discover other books by an audiobook author. In addition, subscribers can review their own listening habits by asking when they first played a song or which genres they have explored recently.

Personalization Becomes Spotify’s AI Strategy

Spotify says the conversational assistant aims to make the platform “more personal and useful for every listener.” At the same time, the company acknowledges that the beta remains a work in progress and that responses may not always be accurate. Therefore, Spotify plans to refine the experience as it gathers user feedback.

The launch builds on Spotify’s broader AI strategy, which already includes AI DJ, AI Playlist, Prompted Playlist, and podcast discovery tools. Consequently, the company is positioning artificial intelligence as a core part of how users discover and engage with audio content. As competition intensifies across streaming platforms, conversational AI could become a key differentiator for Premium subscribers seeking faster and more personalized recommendations.
