UTAS Launches Drone Labs Across Three Oman Campuses

UTAS drone laboratory training facility

The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) has launched the Drone Labs project by establishing three specialized laboratories for drone programming and manufacturing at its campuses in Muscat, Al Musannah, and Nizwa. The initiative aims to strengthen innovation, research, and national talent development.

Moreover, the project gives students across the university direct access to hands-on training in one of the fastest-growing technology fields. As a result, students can build practical expertise in unmanned aerial systems and advanced digital technologies.

The new laboratories also help advance technical education and scientific research. In addition, they equip students with practical skills in drone programming, manufacturing, operation, and control. Furthermore, the facilities encourage applied learning, research, and innovation while preparing graduates for emerging technology careers.

Collaboration supports industry-ready skills

The Drone Labs project operates under the joint supervision of the university’s Electronic Systems and Student Services Sector and the Executive Committee for Digital Transformation Initiatives. Consequently, the laboratories create a practical learning environment that connects academic education with industry requirements and labor market needs.

Meanwhile, the project receives support from the Digital Transformation Program. The program focuses on developing national capabilities, accelerating the adoption of emerging technologies, and building an innovation-driven ecosystem.
