OpenAI and Anthropic launched competing promotions for their AI coding platforms on 13 May, as both companies pushed to secure long-term enterprise developer adoption. The offers targeted businesses that increasingly rely on agentic software engineering tools for coding workflows and automation.

OpenAI Pushes Enterprise Codex Adoption

OpenAI introduced a limited-time promotion for eligible enterprise customers using Codex. Businesses that register within 30 days can receive two months of free access for new users after OpenAI reviews their applications.

The company designed the campaign to attract technical leadership teams and larger engineering departments. As a result, enterprises with dozens of developers could reduce software costs significantly during the trial period. Moreover, the move reflects OpenAI’s broader effort to expand Codex adoption among enterprise clients before competitors strengthen their market position.

Anthropic Expands Claude Code Usage Limits

Only hours later, Anthropic responded by increasing weekly usage limits for Claude Code subscribers by 50 percent. The expansion applies to Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans across command-line, desktop, IDE extension, and web interfaces. However, free-tier users did not receive the increase.

The update marked Anthropic’s third capacity expansion in five weeks. Earlier changes included removing peak-hour restrictions and doubling five-hour rate limits following a compute agreement with SpaceX. That agreement granted Anthropic access to the Colossus 1 data centre in Memphis, where more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs operate.

Enterprise AI Coding Market Heats Up

The competing announcements highlight how critical AI coding tools have become for both companies’ enterprise growth strategies. According to reports from The New York Times, Anthropic is discussing a funding round that could value the company at up to $950 billion. Meanwhile, OpenAI reached an $852 billion valuation during its March funding round.

Independent benchmarks also show meaningful differences between the platforms. Codex reportedly uses three to four times fewer tokens than Claude Code for comparable coding tasks, which may lower operational costs for enterprise customers. In contrast, Anthropic positions its Opus model as more dependable for complex multi-file software projects. Consequently, both companies continue adjusting pricing, capacity, and incentives as competition intensifies across the enterprise AI coding market.
