Google Launches Snapseed 4.0 For Android Users

Snapseed 4.0 Android photo editing features

Google has released Snapseed 4.0 for Android, bringing the app’s biggest update in years to mobile photographers. The rollout started on the Play Store on May 8, 2026. As a result, Android users now receive many features that previously remained exclusive to iOS.

The update arrives after a long gap in Android development. While Google last updated the Android version in May 2024, iOS users received Snapseed 3.0 in June 2025 with a redesigned interface and improved editing workflow. Since then, iOS continued receiving smaller upgrades through early 2026.

Moreover, Google teased the Android launch earlier this week through social media previews ahead of the official rollout.

New Editing Tools and Camera Features

Snapseed 4.0 introduces the new Snapseed Camera, which allows users to capture photos with live film-style effects and editable custom looks. In addition, the app now includes Smart Masking for quick subject and background selection.

Google also added batch editing, enabling users to apply edits across multiple images simultaneously. Furthermore, the update expands Snapseed’s editing suite with Color HSL adjustments, a Dehaze tool, and an Expand feature for increasing canvas size.

The refreshed vintage filters now include Halation, Bloom, and Grain effects. At the same time, non-destructive editing lets users restore original photos at any stage of the workflow.

Staged Rollout Continues

Although the rollout has started globally, some Android devices still display the older 2.22 version on the Play Store. Therefore, availability may vary depending on region and device.

Meanwhile, Google may reveal additional details during the Android Show I/O edition on May 12. The update also strengthens Snapseed’s position in the mobile editing market by offering advanced tools without subscriptions, advertisements, or watermarks.
