Apple Trains Siri Team Ahead of AI Upgrade
Apple is sending a large portion of its Siri engineering team to a multi-week bootcamp focused on AI-assisted coding. The training arrives just weeks before the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June. Meanwhile, about 60 engineers will continue building the updated assistant, while another 60 will focus on testing performance and safety standards.
As a result, Apple is balancing skill development with ongoing product delivery. The effort highlights a broader push to integrate AI tools into its development workflow ahead of a major product update.
Catch-Up Effort and Internal Challenges
However, the initiative also reflects internal pressure to accelerate AI adoption. The Siri team has lagged behind other internal groups in using AI coding tools. In contrast, other teams have already invested heavily in advanced development systems. Therefore, Apple is now working to close that gap before its next major release cycle.
At the same time, delays have affected Siri’s modernization roadmap. The company postponed several planned upgrades tied to its AI strategy across multiple release cycles. Consequently, these setbacks led to organizational changes and increased urgency around execution.
Leadership Shift and WWDC Focus
Following these challenges, Apple restructured its AI leadership. Craig Federighi now oversees AI development, while Mike Rockwell leads the Siri team. In addition, Apple has partnered with Google to integrate advanced AI models into its ecosystem.
Looking ahead, the revamped Siri will take center stage at WWDC. The new version is expected to include a conversational interface, improved contextual awareness, and support for multi-step actions across apps. Therefore, the upcoming launch will test whether Apple can align its AI ambitions with consistent product delivery.
