Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan met with Professor Eric Xing in Abu Dhabi to discuss climate-focused innovation. As President and Chief Executive Officer of Frontier25 and The Climate Tribe, she emphasized practical outcomes. Meanwhile, the talks centered on turning artificial intelligence into measurable climate action. Additionally, both sides reviewed recent advances in sustainability and AI. As a result, the meeting set a collaborative tone for future initiatives.
K2 Think and AI Capabilities
During the meeting, participants discussed K2 Think, an open-source system for advanced AI reasoning. Notably, MBZUAI launched the system in September in partnership with G42. Moreover, the model stands on par with leading global AI systems. Therefore, it marks a major milestone for artificial intelligence capabilities in the UAE. At the same time, the dialogue highlighted opportunities to apply such tools to climate challenges.
Climate-Focused Programs and Global Partnerships
The discussions also covered recent climate initiatives led by MBZUAI. For example, the university launched a weather forecast training program with the University of Chicago in September. Consequently, the program supports governments with tailored forecasts for local agricultural needs. In particular, it aims to benefit millions of farmers worldwide. In addition, MBZUAI became the founding knowledge partner for the United Nations Development Program’s AI for Sustainable Development Platform last year. Following COP28, the platform now focuses on using AI to advance sustainable development goals.
