The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence has introduced WAI, a community-focused initiative designed to help youth and senior citizens understand artificial intelligence and its practical uses. As a result, the program encourages meaningful intergenerational learning that highlights how AI can empower individuals in everyday life. Additionally, support from local partners ensured the first edition reached a wide and diverse audience.
The inaugural event took place on campus and welcomed more than 30 young participants along with over 15 senior citizens. Together, they spent the day learning, interacting, and discussing the growing impact of AI on modern society. Because the sessions were hands-on and accessible, attendees engaged comfortably with new concepts throughout the program.
Making AI Accessible to All
Through a range of interactive activities, WAI breaks down AI topics into simple and practical lessons. Youth participants explored essential AI principles and experimented with beginner-friendly tools during guided sessions in prompt engineering. Moreover, these activities encouraged creativity and supported the development of foundational skills.
For senior citizens, the program delivered introductory lessons that made AI more relatable, including demonstrations showing how AI can simplify everyday tasks. The experience also strengthened confidence in using emerging technologies. To mark their participation, all attendees received certificates recognizing their engagement and progress.
Supporting Lifelong Learning and Inclusion
Aligned with the UAE’s Year of Community 2025, the initiative supports national efforts to promote inclusivity and lifelong learning. Furthermore, by extending AI education beyond academic settings, the program contributes to building a technologically capable and confident society prepared for an AI-driven future. As WAI continues to expand, it is expected to deepen community involvement and inspire broader participation in emerging technologies.
