Gmail Adds Purchases Tab and Smarter Filters

Gmail is introducing a Purchases tab on both mobile and web to make tracking online orders easier. When users select the tab, they will see only emails related to purchases, including order confirmations and shipping estimates. This builds on Gmail’s existing package-tracking feature, which already highlights shipments expected within the next 24 hours. Additionally, order tracking cards will continue to appear at the top of relevant emails with quick purchase details.

Smarter Deal Notifications

Alongside the Purchases tab, Gmail will enhance its Promotions category. The update includes a new feature that highlights timely deals. With this change, users will be able to quickly find relevant offers without scrolling through their inbox. This improvement is designed to make deal discovery faster and more personalized.

New Sorting Filter for Emails

A filter option will also be introduced, allowing emails to be sorted by “most relevant.” This filter will prioritize updates from brands users interact with frequently, while still allowing a switch back to sorting by “most recent.” The new Promotions tab features will begin rolling out in the coming weeks on mobile devices for personal Gmail accounts.
