Netflix announced Wednesday that viewers can now customize clips through its “Moments” feature on mobile devices. The update enables users to select start and end points for a scene, then save it for rewatching or sharing in the “My Netflix” tab. The feature originally launched last year, giving fans a way to hold onto their favorite moments.
The timing coincides with the release of part two of season two of “Wednesday.” Netflix aims to capture buzz around viral scenes, particularly since a dance clip from the show’s first season spread widely online. “Wednesday” remains the most-watched Netflix show, with more than 252 million views.
A Push for Mobile Engagement
“At its heart, this feature is about giving members the ability to celebrate and share their favorite stories while curating an experience that feels uniquely their own,” said Elmar Nubbemeyer, Netflix’s vice president of member product. He also noted that the company views this as the start of a more dynamic, mobile-focused design approach.
With the update, viewers will see a new “clip” option on the screen to adjust segment length. Once saved, clips stay accessible in the app for easy sharing. By introducing interactive tools, Netflix is leaning into audience behavior that thrives on short, shareable video.
Strategy Beyond Streaming
The expansion of “Moments” reflects a broader shift at Netflix. The company recently rolled out a redesigned homepage and a vertical video feed similar to TikTok. It has also pursued major strategic changes since its slowdown in 2022, including a lower-priced ad-supported plan and a crackdown on password sharing.
Although Netflix no longer discloses subscription counts, it reported more than 300 million paid memberships in January. With updates like “Moments,” the company continues to refine its platform while fueling fan engagement.
