Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organized several activities to mark International Women in Engineering Day on June 23. This annual event celebrates Emirati female engineers who are vital in advancing DEWA’s vision and contributing to the UAE’s progress.
DEWA’s celebration also emphasizes its commitment to supporting and empowering women. These initiatives highlight the key role of women in driving progress across all sectors. DEWA elevates the status of Emirati women as pioneers in engineering. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, stressed the importance of women’s participation in achieving national goals. Al Tayer also reaffirmed DEWA’s dedication to providing a supportive environment that nurtures women’s creativity and contributes to DEWA’s objectives.
“We follow the wise leadership’s footsteps in supporting women’s empowerment. Our investment is in innovation, research, and digital transformation. We use the latest disruptive technologies to expand women’s roles in the energy sector and technical divisions,” said Al Tayer. DEWA employs 1,939 women, with 742 in engineering and technical roles. Many also hold leadership positions. Fatima Al Jokar, DEWA Women’s Committee Chairperson, highlighted the efforts to expand women’s participation in climate action and renewable energy sectors.
Additionally, to celebrate, the DEWA Women’s Committee organized a panel discussion featuring female engineers. They shared their experiences and contributions to DEWA’s global standing. Brainstorming workshops also explored development opportunities, aspirations, and teamwork enhancements. The committee also launched the fourth edition of “#yourday…as an engineer” to showcase daily responsibilities and achievements.
Dr. Aaesha Alnuaimi, Director of DEWA’s Innovation Centre, emphasized DEWA’s commitment to equal opportunities. Specialized training programs and workshops raise awareness and build women’s technical competencies.
Maryam Abdulaziz Khansaheb, Manager of Corporate Sustainability, praised DEWA’s female engineers for their remarkable contributions. Additionally, Fatima Karim, Senior Engineer, highlighted DEWA’s supportive environment, enhancing cooperation and teamwork.
Mozah Alyammahi, Senior Researcher at DEWA’s R&D Centre, expressed gratitude for DEWA’s support. She emphasized the importance of her role in pioneering projects that support DEWA’s vision.
