Tesla ups Model 3 and Model Y prices in China and the US

Tesla has slightly increased the prices of its Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in China and the United States. The changes are part of the electric vehicle manufacturer’s ongoing adjustments to its pricing strategy. According to Tesla’s website, the price of the Model 3 in China has risen from 229,900 yuan to 231,900 yuan, while the performance version of the Model 3 has seen a 2,000 yuan increase. The Model Y now starts at 263,900 yuan, with the long-range and performance editions also seeing a 2,000-yuan price hike.

In the United States, Tesla has raised the prices of both Model Y and Model 3 vehicles by $250 across the board, with the Model Y now starting at $47,240. Tesla’s move comes amid a global shortage of microchips that have impacted the automobile industry, leading to supply chain disruptions and higher production costs. Some automakers have responded to the shortage by raising prices to offset the increased costs.

Tesla has been adjusting its pricing policy in recent months, with the company increasing prices of its solar panels and batteries in February. The electric vehicle manufacturer also raised the prices of its Model S and Model X vehicles in the United States in February, citing supply chain challenges. Despite the price increases, Tesla remains one of the most popular electric vehicle manufacturers in the world, with the company reporting record deliveries of 184,800 vehicles in the first quarter of 2021.
