UAE and Oman boost environmental preservation efforts with a new agreement

The Minister of Climate Change and the Environment, Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, led a UAE delegation on an official visit to Oman aimed at strengthening cooperation in environmental protection. During the visit, discussions were held on enhancing cooperation in various areas, including sustainable fish farming, achieving net-zero targets, mangrove plantations, and the UAE’s preparations for COP28.

The visit concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Climate Change and the Environment (MoCCAE) and Oman’s Environment Authority to drive sustainable development and boost cooperation in environmental protection. Almheiri emphasized the UAE’s commitment to promoting eco-friendly solutions to address environmental challenges, both locally and globally.

The UAE delegation met with Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of Oman’s Environment Authority, and Dr. Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources of Oman. Under the MoU, the two sides will collaborate on research and studies related to environmental preservation, enhancing air quality, biodiversity conservation, achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and preparing sustainable development progress reports.

The agreement also includes the exchange of best practices and policies related to environmental conservation and reducing pollution. The UAE delegation comprised several officials from the MoCCAE, reflecting the nation’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.
