UAE-based multi-service platform Careem, has acquired Munch:On, a subscription-based food delivery system, as part of its ongoing bid to become a “super app.” The acquisition means Munch:On will stop its daily operations and its offering will be migrated to the Careem application – which in recent months has grown to offer ride-hailing, payments, food, PCR testing and other services in one consolidated platform.
Founded in 2016, Munch:On is a subscription-based food delivery platform which connects customers to meals at a discount by tapping into underutilized kitchen capacity and using scheduling, bundling and routing software. It has grown to mostly serve in the corporate lunch segment.
“The food offer on the Careem app today serves millions of customers across the Middle East and is growing rapidly. By acquiring Munch:On, Careem Food will be able to build an even more competitive offering with a much richer variety of benefits for both customers and restaurant partners,” Mudassir Sheikha, CEO and Co-founder of Careem, said in a release.
The Careem app is available in eight cities across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Qatar.
