Today’s children are growing up in a digital-first environment, surrounded by devices and online platforms. As a result, many are naturally drawn to digital careers. According to recent research by Kaspersky, 42% of children across the Middle East, Türkiye, and Africa (META) aspire to become bloggers. Furthermore, 44% are already building their blogs or working on content for the future. This not only reflects their ambition but also highlights how early digital fluency is shaping their career goals.

For many young people, the dream of popularity is a key motivator. Over half (53%) of those surveyed said their desire to become a blogger was driven by hopes of gaining popularity. Additionally, 46% shared that they enjoy the process of creating video content. Interestingly, 36% believed blogging offered an easy way to make money, while 32% were inspired by the idea that it is trendy and cool. These numbers reflect the growing influence of digital content creators and the lifestyle that comes with it.

Parents Have Mixed Feelings but Mostly Supportive

Parental opinions on blogging as a career path remain divided. Only 16% of surveyed parents actively encourage their children to pursue blogging. However, 44% consider it acceptable, provided the child chooses it as an adult. In contrast, 25% are not in favor of blogging as a profession for their children. Despite the mixed feelings, a majority of parents—74%, either support or do not object to their children’s blogging activities. This general acceptance reflects a shift in attitudes as digital careers become more mainstream.

Seifallah Jedidi, Regional Head of Consumer Channel for the Middle East, Türkiye and Africa at Kaspersky, remarked, “Regardless of parents’ opinions on blogging, creating, maintaining, and promoting a blog is a difficult task, which requires a wide range of skills that could be useful for a child’s future career. It can help young people to discover their creativity and ways to express themselves. Blogging also provides mom and dad with valuable insights into their children’s lives, bringing families closer together.” He added that with proper support, children can confidently pursue their ambitions while staying mindful of cybersecurity.

Safe Blogging Starts With Smart Practices

To help parents and young bloggers navigate the digital world safely, Kaspersky has shared several practical recommendations. First, since a social media account is central to blogging, protecting it is essential. Setting up two-factor authentication is a simple yet effective step to prevent account compromise.

Second, a strong and unique password should be used. Reusing passwords across multiple platforms is strongly discouraged. Moreover, privacy awareness is crucial. Children need to understand which information is safe to share and which should be kept private. For instance, public posts about IDs, travel plans, or geolocation are risky and should be avoided.

Additionally, young bloggers will likely engage with many different people online. It’s important to establish from the beginning what topics are appropriate to discuss with strangers and which should never be shared. Not all followers are trustworthy, so being prepared for unwanted contact is essential. The safest response is to stop replying and block suspicious users.

Finally, with tools like Kaspersky Premium, parents can actively safeguard their children from cyber threats. These tools provide a safety net while enabling kids to explore the digital space confidently.
