UAE foils 50,000 daily cyberattacks on vital sectors

Mohammed Hamad Al Kuwaiti, the Head of Cyber Security for the Government of the UAE, has recently highlighted the country’s efforts to prevent cyberattacks on strategic national sectors. He stated that the UAE Cyber Security Council cooperates with partners to deter over 50,000 cyberattacks every day on crucial sectors such as banking, finance, health, oil, and gas.

In his statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Al Kuwaiti emphasized that all cyberattacks are proactively and efficiently countered to protect the UAE’s digital sphere. He also highlighted that the council operates within the country’s information security standards and policies to combat these attacks, affirming that the UAE’s advanced digital infrastructure and capabilities are highly effective in countering malicious cyberattacks that target government authorities.

The statement was made during the Oracle CloudWorld Tour Abu Dhabi 2023 event, which recently kicked off in the capital. Al Kuwaiti emphasized that the UAE places a significant focus on maintaining its cyber defences against potential threats, which is reflected in its fifth-place ranking in the Global Cybersecurity Index of the International Telecommunication Union of the United Nations. This index measures the awareness of cybersecurity in 193 countries, indicating that the UAE has a strong understanding of the importance of cybersecurity in today’s digital landscape.
