Dubai has inaugurated the largest solar-powered data centre in the world

Dubai has inaugurated the world’s largest solar-powered data centre in the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the biggest single-site solar park globally. The facility, developed by Moro Hub, a subsidiary of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s digital arm, Digital Dewa, offers a range of services including digital transformation, cloud computing, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data hosting, smart cities, and the Internet of Things. It also provides Moro services supported by ChatGPT technology. The data centre has been recognised by the Guinness World Records as the largest solar-powered data centre in the world.

The green data centre is equipped with advanced solutions from global technology giants including Dell Technologies, Microsoft, and Huawei, and is recognized as the biggest solar-powered data centre by Guinness World Records. The facility will provide services in the areas of digital transformation, cloud computing, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data hosting, smart cities, the Internet of Things, and Moro services supported by ChatGPT technology.

The new data centre is seen as a critical component of the UAE’s push towards a more sustainable and digital economy. The Emirates’ digital economy is projected to grow to over $140 billion by 2031, up from nearly $38 billion today, according to a report by the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy. The data centre will contribute towards achieving the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Emissions Strategy 2050, which aims to generate 100% of the city’s energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.

Saeed Al Tayer, Managing Director and Chief Executive of Dewa, said that the new data centre is a reflection of the government’s commitment to promoting digital transformation and sustainability, as well as enhancing its integrated solutions to help organizations and companies achieve net-zero carbon emissions.
